List of Harlan County coal scrip pieces
Over 100 Harlan coal companies used the scrip system to pay their employees. This list shows the company that operated in each coal camp and the list of the scrip they issued. Collectors report that over 950 different scrip pieces have been found.
Ford Motor Co., U.S. Steel, Peabody Energy, Wisconsin Steel, Koppers Co., International Harvester and Chicago Edison all owned coal mines in the county.
